Problems Benefits There is a lot of controversy about laws and beliefs in respect to stem cells, specifically embryonic stem cells, regarding contraception, abortion, and in vitro fertilization. Many cultures and religions believe that the use of embryonic stem cells is unethical because they believe life starts from the moment of contraception therefore the destruction of a human blastocyst to obtain embryonic stem cells is murder and it is wrong to take away that embryos chance to live. This creates the debate of whether the embryo is human and has legal and moral rights. It is a common misconception of the general public that embryonic stem cells are obtained from embryos that have been fertilized within a woman’s body. This however is not the case. Scientists obtain embryonic stem cells from blastocysts that have been voluntarily donated by in virto fertilization clinics. These blastocysts are no longer of use to couples that have treated their infertility and would most likely be discarded by the clinic in the future, hence these blastocysts would never of gotten a chance to fully develop regardless, and therefore they should be used for research. Short reflection on the CPA exercise During placement we were required to complete a CPA report. My problem was that the placement I was allocated – Older persons inpatients – did not compile CPA reports. This situation was compounded by the fact that this was a very short placement of 5 weeks and thus limited opportunities to seek an additional day or so elsewhere, and the fact that my mentor was reluctant for me to go elsewhere for learning opportunities and wanted me to meet all outcomes on the ward. We had a patient on the ward who was going to be subject to a CPA review on discharge, and I negotiated with my mentor the opportunity to work with the patients CPN in order to complete this. I did not have any difficulties compiling the report, and the process was more or less stress free. The patient was due to be discharged the day after funding had been agreed and this day was my day off. Thus the report and the assessments needed to feed into the report had to be completed within one shift, as well as meeting the demands of nursing on a busy inpatient unit. However, with support from the nurse on charge - allowing me minimal interruption as possible (however this was difficult due to the nature of nursing Older adults, the complexity of the care involved and an open office policy) - I managed to keep within the timescales. I found the whole experience to be a useful exercise in experiencing the real pressure faced by nurses on inpatient units and the demands of balancing direct patient care and essential paperwork. Unlike the rest of nature's animals, our environment is primarily man-made and symbolic in quality. As Bronowski observed in The Ascent of Man, instead of being figures of the landscape, like antelopes upon the African savanna, we humans are the shapers of it. Geographical space and natural time are transformed into social space and social time, around whose definitions human beings orient their behaviors. For instance, instead of being governed by the natural rhythms of the sun and seasons, our behaviors are governed by such cultural temporalities as work schedules, age norms, and by the open hours of shopping malls. Culture is a shared system of ideas about the nature of the world and how (and when) people should behave in it. Cultural theorists argue that culture creates minds, selves and emotions in a society as reliably as DNA creates the various tissues of a living body. Culture also creates the rhythms of a society that echo within the very biology of its members. I m trying to get the record of students PHD departments o like contact number or email-id , so that I can contact them to collect data . From project guides and PHD authorities get the time when I can meet with these peoples. Making sure that the same method was used at all stages could have rectified this. This would have ensured that all the figures were reliable. Its possible that the reading were not done very accurate and not made at their actual point. If this problem were consistent all of the readings would have been inaccurate. By having the same person doing the readings and also having used a syringe that has more reading points would have made them more accurate in that the individual points would have been easier to read. Another possible problem that was seen was the fact that the aim was to look for colour changes. It would not have been able to come to a sure conclusion of what was straw colour and what was not. It would have not been able to come to a sure mark of straw coloured. There would not no real solution to this problem as it would be dependant on the person. The only solution that could minimise this problem would be to have the same person making the judgments, as their perception of Straw coloured would be the same.
